Nigerian Army Hosts Three-Day Retreat to Address Insecurity in the Northwest

The Nigerian Army has organized a three-day retreat for both past and present commanders of its operations in Northwest Nigeria.

The event aims to address the persistent insecurity plaguing the region by providing a platform for commanders of operations in the region to evaluate current security measures and devise new strategies to address the ongoing challenges.

Delivering the keynote address, the Chief of Army Staff COAS, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, represented by the Army Chief of Operations Major General Benson Sinjen underscored the significance of the retreat, stating that it aims to review past activities, build on operational successes, and adapt to the volatile and evolving security threats posed by non-state actors.

According to him, there is an urgent need for the Nigerian Army to re-strategize and come up with ideas to contain the activities of non-state actors who engage in banditry, kidnappings, cattle rustling, illegal mining, and violent attacks on innocent citizens.

In his welcome address, Major General Garba Wahab (retired), Director General of the Nigerian Army Resource Centre, emphasized the significance of the retreat.

He stated that it would serve as a crucial platform for commanders to brainstorm and develop innovative strategies to combat the ongoing security challenges in the Northwest.

“This retreat provides an opportunity for commanders to share their experiences and insights, fostering a collaborative environment to generate new ideas and approaches in our fight against insecurity,” Major General Wahab said.

The retreat will feature various sessions and discussions focused on assessing current strategies, identifying gaps, and formulating actionable plans to enhance security operations in the region.

According to him, there is an urgent need for the Nigerian Army to re strategize and come up with ideas to contain the activities of non-state actors who engage in banditry, kidnappings, cattle rustling, illegal mining, and violent attacks on innocent citizens.

The Nigerian Army remains committed to ensuring peace and stability in the Northwest and across the country.

Building on the success of this retreat, the Nigerian Army plans to organize similar events for other geopolitical zones to foster collaboration and generate region-specific solutions to the unique security challenges faced by each zone.
