Nigerian Army Commends African Bar Association for Upholding Rule of Law, Vows Ongoing Support


In a show of appreciation for its dedication to upholding the Rule of Law, Human Rights, and Good Governance, the Nigerian Army (NA) has extended its gratitude to the African Bar Association (ABA) and pledged continued support.

During a meeting held at the Army Headquarters in Abuja on Thursday, March 14, 2024, Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant Taoreed Lagbaja, represented by Chief of Policy and Plans (Army) Major General Abdulsalami Ibrahim, lauded the ABA for its recognition of the NA’s contributions to national security and development.

He emphasized the ABA’s vital role in providing legal guidance to the military and promoting adherence to global standards within the NA.

Highlighting the collaborative efforts between the military and civil society, the COAS acknowledged the positive impact of the partnership on the country.

President of the African Bar Association, Barrister Hannibal Uwaifo, commended the NA for its support in training legal personnel and credited the establishment of the ABA to the NA’s initiatives back in 2018.

He underscored the significant contributions of military lawyers to the legal system’s advancement and expressed the ABA’s commitment to sustaining its partnership with the NA in tackling security challenges.

Uwaifo reaffirmed the ABA’s dedication to fostering a safer and more prosperous Nigeria through continued collaboration with the Nigerian Army.
