On Friday, June 28, 2024, the Nigerian Army (NA) commenced its Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) 2024 with Juma’at prayers held across its formations and units nationwide. This event marks the beginning of a series of activities to celebrate the 161st anniversary of the Nigerian Army.
Muslim faithful gathered at the Guards Brigade Mosque in Mambila Barracks, Asokoro, Abuja, for the special Juma’at prayers. The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, in a message delivered by Major General Usman Yusuf, Director General Land Forces Simulation Center, emphasized the importance of the Juma’at prayers in expressing gratitude to Almighty Allah for the Army’s successes and progress over the years.
He highlighted the prayers’ significance in seeking Allah’s blessings for continued success in the Army’s operations and the nation’s unity.
Lieutenant General Lagbaja also urged all personnel to remain loyal, steadfast, and disciplined in their constitutional duties, reflecting the Army’s commitment to maintaining peace and security in Nigeria.
The Chief Imam of the Guards Brigade Mosque, Captain Salisu Musa, led the prayers, offering special supplications for the nation, its leaders, and the personnel of the Nigerian Armed Forces. He prayed for divine guidance and protection for the Army and the country’s prosperity.
Among the dignitaries present at the special Juma’at prayers were Major General Abdulsalami Ibrahim, Chief of Policy and Plans (Army); Major General Zakari Abubakar, Chief of Transformation and Innovation; Major General Farouk Mijinyawa, Director Plans (DAPP); and Brigadier General Abubakar Garba, Provost Marshall (Army). They were joined by other senior officers, soldiers, and their families in the solemn event.
The Director of Army Public Relations, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, released a statement underscoring the significance of the Juma’at prayers in fostering unity and reaffirming the Army’s dedication to serving the nation.
