The Nigerian Army (NA) has issued a statement expressing deep concern over the reported involvement of two of its personnel in an attempted theft at the Dangote Refinery in Lagos.
The incident, which was thwarted by vigilant troops and private security operatives, is regarded as a grave breach of conduct and is not reflective of the NA’s values.
According to preliminary investigations, the two suspects allegedly colluded with a civilian contractor identified as Mr. Smart, who purportedly hired them under false pretenses to retrieve Armoured cables left on the refinery premises.
However, upon approaching the security post, Mr. Smart absconded, leaving the soldiers behind.
The suspects are currently in custody, and efforts are underway to determine the extent of their involvement in the attempted theft.
The stolen cables have been recovered and secured, while the NA is collaborating with Dangote Refinery management to conduct a thorough investigation.
Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations, emphasized the NA’s commitment to upholding discipline and integrity within its ranks.
He reassured the public that appropriate disciplinary measures would be taken against the perpetrators, reaffirming the army’s zero-tolerance policy towards criminal activities among its personnel.
The NA remains dedicated to fostering a culture of accountability and ethical behavior, aiming to uphold its core values and maintain public trust.
