In an ongoing effort to combat terrorism and ensure the safety of citizens, the Armed Forces of Nigeria have ramped up their operations across the country.
Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, released a press statement detailing the significant progress made as of April 12, 2024.
According to the press release, the armed forces have adopted a decisive approach, inflicting heavy casualties on terrorist elements.
In the past week, troops have neutralized 188 terrorists and apprehended 330 individuals suspected of involvement in terrorist activities.
Moreover, the military has made significant strides in curbing oil theft and rescuing kidnapped hostages.
In the Niger Delta region, troops thwarted oil theft attempts amounting to over N637 million and rescued 133 hostages. Additionally, 36 perpetrators of oil theft have been apprehended.
The recovered arsenal includes a staggering array of weapons and ammunition, totaling 270 assorted weapons and over 5,000 rounds of ammunition.
These include AK47 rifles, locally fabricated guns, automatic pump-action guns, grenades, and improvised explosive devices (IEDs), among others.
Furthermore, the military’s operations in the Niger Delta have led to the discovery and destruction of illegal refining sites, boats, storage tanks, and vehicles used in criminal activities.
Troops confiscated over 670,000 litres of stolen crude oil and 90,000 litres of illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO).
Major General Buba emphasized the military’s commitment to eradicating terrorism and ensuring the security of Nigerian citizens.
He highlighted the elimination of numerous terrorist leaders and reaffirmed the armed forces’ readiness to utilize all available resources to maintain peace and stability in the country.
As the armed forces continue their operations, the Nigerian populace can expect ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist networks and enhance security across the nation.
