Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, provided an update on recent efforts aimed at stabilizing the country and safeguarding its resources.
The armed forces have heightened intelligence collection to locate and neutralize terrorists, targeting their hideouts and support infrastructure.
This strategic approach aims to dismantle terrorist networks while ensuring the safety of farmers during the rainy season, crucial for successful agricultural activities.
During the past week, troops have made significant strides, neutralizing 220 terrorists and arresting 395 suspects. Additionally, 55 individuals involved in oil theft were apprehended, and 202 kidnapped hostages were rescued.
In the South-South region, military operations have prevented oil theft amounting to approximately N1.86 billion.
A substantial cache of weapons and ammunition was also recovered. The inventory includes 432 assorted weapons and 9,004 rounds of ammunition.
Among the recovered items are PKT guns, AK47 rifles, RPG launchers, and smoke grenades. Troops also seized 8 vehicles, 32 motorcycles, 59 mobile phones, and a sum of N813,550.
In the Niger Delta area, troops discovered and destroyed numerous illegal refining sites and equipment.
The haul from these operations includes 51 dugout pits, 38 boats, 51 storage tanks, and over 1 million liters of stolen crude oil.
Efforts to dismantle the infrastructure supporting oil theft are ongoing, with the military recovering various items such as cooking ovens, speedboats, drums, and vehicles.
