Nigeria Reinforces Commitment to Regional Security at ECOWAS Meeting.


The Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar CON, mni, reiterated Nigeria’s dedication to fostering regional security cooperation among ECOWAS member states during the Extraordinary Session of the Mediation and Security Council held in Abuja.

The meeting, attended by ministers from across the ECOWAS community, focused on addressing pressing security concerns, particularly in light of the withdrawal of Niger, Mali, and Burkina Faso from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

Minister Badaru emphasized the urgency of collective action in tackling challenges such as climate change, violent extremism, migration, and organized crime, which pose significant threats to the region’s stability.

“We remain committed to working hand in hand with our ECOWAS counterparts to ensure the safety and well-being of our citizens,” affirmed Minister Badaru, underlining Nigeria’s steadfast commitment to regional security efforts.

Led by ECOWAS Commission’s Chairman and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, representatives of member states deliberated on potential solutions to the complex security landscape facing West Africa.

Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, President of ECOWAS, underscored the importance of collective action in addressing common challenges, emphasizing the need for solidarity among member states.

Minister Badaru’s active participation in the Ministerial Level Session highlights Nigeria’s leadership role in promoting peace and security across the region. His unwavering dedication sets a commendable example for regional cooperation and solidarity.
