The Nigeria Police Force has raised an alarm over the growing trend of unprofessional conduct among some police officers, warning against the fraudulent misuse of the name and office of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to intimidate and exploit citizens.
In a public notice issued today, the Force expressed concern about the actions of certain officers who undermine its reputation and erode public trust. Despite ongoing efforts to curb these behaviors through warnings and disciplinary measures, some officers continue to engage in unethical practices.
The statement, signed by ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, highlighted cases where individuals exploit the IGP’s name to lend credibility to their illegal activities.
These tactics, it noted, often deter victims from reporting such misconduct due to fear of reprisal or perceived approval from high-ranking officials.
To address this issue, the Nigeria Police Force has urged the public to report any suspicious behavior or misconduct by officers to their superiors or the state’s Complaint Response Units (CRU).
The public is also advised to exercise caution when approached by individuals claiming connections to senior police officers for influence or favors.
