Nigeria Police Force Intensifies Efforts to Combat Kidnapping and Terrorism

In response to the escalating threat of kidnapping and terrorism, the Nigeria Police Force, under the leadership of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, is doubling down on its efforts to eradicate these crimes.

The IGP has issued a directive to the Deputy Inspector General of Police overseeing the Force Intelligence Department (FID) and the broader intelligence community, emphasizing the need to enhance operations and intelligence gathering capabilities to effectively address the scourge of kidnapping across the nation.

Kidnapping remains a significant security challenge in certain areas, posing a threat to the safety and well-being of citizens.

In response, the NPF is committed to deploying all necessary resources and strategies to ensure the safety of all Nigerians.

To achieve this goal, the Force Intelligence Department has been instructed to intensify intelligence-gathering efforts and collaborate closely with other law enforcement agencies and stakeholders to gather actionable intelligence on kidnapping syndicates nationwide.

Coordination and information sharing among the intelligence community are paramount to facilitate targeted operations against kidnappers and their networks, with the aim of rescuing captives and dismantling criminal activities.

Similarly in a strategic move to bolster financial intelligence capabilities, the IGP hosted delegates from the US Treasury Department and the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

The meeting focused on enhancing financial intelligence capabilities and strengthening the fight against corruption, counterterrorism financing, and money laundering.

Both parties emphasized the critical role of financial intelligence in combating illicit activities and reaffirmed their commitment to collaborative efforts aimed at safeguarding national security and promoting integrity in financial systems.

Commending intelligence operatives for their dedication, the IGP assured the public of the force’s unwavering determination to bring perpetrators of these crimes to justice.

The NPF remains resolute in its commitment to preserving peace and stability in Nigeria.
