Nigeria, Malawi Parliaments Deepen Cooperation as Deputy Speaker Kalu Hosts Counterpart.

The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, has welcomed a delegation from the Parliament of Malawi, led by its First Deputy Speaker, Hon. Madalitso Kazombo. The visit aims to strengthen parliamentary cooperation between Nigeria and Malawi, with the Malawian parliamentarians participating in a five-day capacity-building workshop organized by Nigeria’s National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS).

Kalu emphasized that the visit would deepen legislative capacity and democracy, noting that the Malawian parliamentarians’ choice to study at NILDS underscores Nigeria’s growing reputation in democratic governance. He expressed delight that the Malawian parliamentarians chose Nigeria for the training, saying it reflects the country’s growing influence in democratic governance.

The Deputy Speaker highlighted the importance of knowledge sharing, best practices, and collaboration between the legislative bodies of Nigeria and Malawi. He stated that the visit would further solidify their bilateral relations and contribute to Africa’s growth and development.

Hon. Kazombo, the First Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of Malawi, expressed optimism that the visit would yield fruitful outcomes for the respective parliaments. He noted that Malawi stood a chance of learning from Nigeria’s democratic experience, and the visit would provide an opportunity for knowledge sharing and collaboration.
