Nigeria, Germany Renew Defence Partnership with Fresh MoU  


The Governments of Nigeria and Germany have reinforced their long-standing defence collaboration by signing a renewed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the German Technical Advisory Group (GTAG).

The agreement, which has been in place for 12 years and is renewed every four years, was officially signed at a ceremony held at Ship House, Abuja, on Friday, March 28, 2025.

Speaking at the event, Ambassador Gabriel Tanimu Aduda, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, described the MoU as a strategic funding arrangement that underscores the deep defence ties between both nations.

He noted that the renewed agreement aligns with the shared security and developmental objectives of Nigeria and Germany, ensuring continued military cooperation.

Ambassador Aduda further assured that the Nigerian government remains committed to accountability and efficiency in the agreement’s implementation.

He emphasized that strict timelines, rigorous monitoring, and thorough procurement evaluations would be upheld to ensure transparency and value for money.

Colonel Boris Bovekemp, Germany’s Defence Attaché to Nigeria, reaffirmed his country’s commitment to enhancing cooperation in key areas such as security, defence, and capacity building.

He praised the enduring partnership and stressed the importance of strengthening existing agreements to tackle emerging security challenges.

The renewed MoU represents a significant step in Nigeria-Germany defence relations, reinforcing both nations’ mutual commitment to security, capacity development, and technical cooperation.
