Nigeria and Bangladesh have begun discussions on strengthening bilateral cooperation in defence, agriculture, and military integration into non-combat sectors.
The Honourable Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, disclosed this during a courtesy visit by the High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Nigeria, H.E. Mansur Rahman, at Ship House, Abuja.
According to the Minister, the collaboration aims to enhance the role of military personnel in agriculture, construction, and infrastructure development, ensuring they remain actively engaged during peacetime. He noted that such partnerships could contribute to economic prosperity and national development.
Badaru emphasized that military cooperation in agriculture and defence would help personnel acquire new skills and engage in productive activities that foster community development.
In response, High Commissioner Mansur Rahman expressed support for the initiative, highlighting the importance of military participation in civilian sectors for sustainable development and economic stability.
He further noted that defence cooperation between both nations could significantly contribute to the growth of Nigeria’s blue economy.
