Nigeria and Egypt Signs MoU to Strengthen Defence Industry Cooperation


The Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Arab Republic of Egypt have formalized a partnership to deepen cooperation in the defence industry through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

This agreement marks a significant step in enhancing bilateral relations between the two nations.

The signing ceremony took place at the Ministry of Defence’s Ship House in Abuja, following a visit by the Egyptian delegation to the Honourable Minister of Defence,  Mohammed Badaru Abubakar. Representing Nigeria, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, signed the MoU, while Major General Walid Hamouda, Assistant Minister of Defence, signed on behalf of Egypt.

The MoU aims to foster closer ties in defence cooperation, particularly in areas such as intelligence sharing and military training, in line with the legal frameworks of both countries.

Dr. Kana expressed optimism that the long-standing relationship between Nigeria and Egypt would continue to yield positive results, particularly in enhancing Nigeria’s defence capabilities.

Major General Walid Hamouda, leading the Egyptian delegation, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to formalize the partnership and reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to the terms of the agreement.

He also highlighted the strong and cordial relationship that has existed between the two countries over the years.

The MoU is expected to pave the way for more collaborative efforts in the defence sector, benefiting both nations and contributing to regional security and stability.

Henshaw Ogubike, the Director of Information and Public Relations at the Ministry of Defence, confirmed the development and reiterated the significance of the agreement in strengthening Nigeria’s defence industry.
