As part of its 61st Anniversary celebrations, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has commissioned a series of critical infrastructure projects at the NAF Base in Kano, aimed at enhancing the welfare and operational readiness of its personnel.
The newly commissioned projects include a state-of-the-art Trauma Centre, an Eye Centre, two blocks of Officers’ Accommodation, and a modern Office Complex for the Military Airport Commandant at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport.
The commissioning ceremony, attended by top military officials and dignitaries, was marked by a tribute to former Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Mohammed Dikko Umar (Rtd), after whom the Trauma Centre was named. Speaking at the event, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, described the new facilities as part of NAF’s broader strategy to transform into a modern, agile, and resilient force.
“This life-saving facility stands as a beacon of hope and a testament to the contributions of our heroes,” Air Marshal Abubakar said, stressing that the newly unveiled medical centres would serve not only NAF personnel but also other armed forces members and the surrounding communities.
He noted that the Eye Centre was developed to meet the increasing need for preventive and curative eye care within the force, with the goal of reducing avoidable vision impairment among personnel.
Addressing the challenge of accommodation, the CAS stated that the two new blocks for officers would significantly improve the quality of life for Air Force personnel stationed in Kano. He added that the new Office Complex for the Military Airport Commandant was designed to boost air defence coordination, airport security, and VIP protocol management.
“These projects represent NAF’s dedication to improving infrastructure and welfare while aligning with Nigeria’s national security goals,” he added.
Air Marshal Abubakar also expressed deep appreciation to the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his unwavering support.
He extended gratitude to the Honourable Minister of Defence, Minister of State for Defence, the Kano State Government, traditional rulers, and host communities for their continued collaboration.
In his charge to personnel, the CAS urged all NAF members to “take ownership of these facilities, use them responsibly, and remain committed to the values of integrity, service before self, and excellence in all we do.”
