Murder of Arise TV Journalist Dominates PSC Promotion Interview for 30 Senior Police Officers

The murder of Arise Television journalist, Ms. Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, took center stage on Tuesday as 30 senior police officers faced the Police Service Commission (PSC) in a promotion interview held in Abuja.

The session, which followed their written examination on Monday, September 29, tested the officers on strategies to curb rising insecurity, with particular focus on preventing avoidable killings, kidnappings, and armed robbery incidents.

Chairman of the Commission, retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Hashimu Argungu, mni, led the interview panel. He expressed concern over the growing wave of violent crimes and challenged the officers to demonstrate renewed vigilance and commitment to safeguarding lives.

“The time has come to redirect the fortunes of the Nigeria Police Force for better performance. The Commission will continue to hold officers accountable for their actions and inactions, while demanding from them undiluted loyalty and respect for human dignity,” Argungu declared.

The PSC Board members present included retired Supreme Court Justice Paul Adamu Galumje; retired DIG Taiwo Lakanu, fdc; retired Justice Christine Ladi Dabup; Alhaji Abdulfatah Mohammed; retired DIG Uba Bala Ringim; and Chief Onyemuche Nnamani, Secretary to the Commission.

Argungu commended the collective resolve of the Board members in the drive to build a truly efficient and effective police force, pledging that the Commission would sustain reforms and ensure that the fight against crime is decisively won.

The promotion interview is part of the Commission’s ongoing reforms aimed at raising professional and ethical standards in the Nigeria Police Force.
