Ministry of Defence Pledges Unwavering Commitment to Eradicate Insecurity in North West Nigeria


The Honourable Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Muhammed Matawalle, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s resolve to eliminate insecurity in the North West and across Nigeria.

Speaking during a comprehensive security assessment tour of Sokoto State, the Minister assured residents that the government would not relent in its efforts to restore peace and stability in the region.

Dr. Matawalle’s tour is part of the Federal Government’s broader strategic plan to address the persistent security challenges that have troubled the North-Western states. During his visit to Gundumi village, the Minister assured residents that the long-closed Gundumi-Isa road would soon be reopened. In addition, a military camp will be established along the route to ensure the safety of travelers and foster economic activities in the area.

“The President is fully committed to ending insecurity in Northern Nigeria, and we are here to ensure that no stone is left unturned in achieving that goal,” Dr. Matawalle stated during his address in Gundumi.

As part of the tour, the Minister also visited Isa Local Government Area, where he urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate closely with security forces to protect their communities. In Turba village, he reassured the locals of additional military personnel deployment to reinforce security efforts.

During a visit to the Forward Operating Base in Sabon Birni, Dr. Matawalle praised the troops for their resilience and dedication. He promised that the Federal Government would address their welfare and logistical needs promptly. The Minister also revealed plans to establish a new military base between Sabon Birni and Tsamaye to further enhance security across the region.

Throughout the tour, the Minister met with residents of villages affected by banditry, including Hawan Duro and Mai Lalle, promising additional troop deployments and encouraging displaced families to return to their homes as security is reinforced.

In Goronyo Local Government Area, Dr. Matawalle acknowledged the critical support from the Sokoto State Government and reiterated the Federal Government’s determination to establish more military camps along major routes, aimed at curbing banditry and other security threats.

The Minister emphasized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to restoring peace in Northern Nigeria. He thanked military personnel for their sacrifices and encouraged local communities to support security agencies actively.

Accompanying the Minister on the tour were the Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, top government officials, and senior military officers. Together, they underscored the government’s dedication to restoring peace and security across the North-West region.

The Federal Government remains resolute in its mission to bring an end to insecurity, with more troops and new military bases paving the way for a safer and more secure future for the North West and beyond.
