Ministry of Defence Commiserates with President Tinubu, Nigerian Army, and Family of Late Chief of Army Staff


The Ministry of Defence has expressed profound condolences to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Nigerian Army, the entire Armed Forces, and the family of the late Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, following his recent passing.

In a statement by Henshaw Ogubike, Director of Information and Public Relations, Minister of Defence, His Excellency Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, and the Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Muhammad Matawalle, joined by Permanent Secretary Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana and the ministry’s staff, conveyed their sympathies and deep sorrow over this significant loss.

Describing the late General’s passing as a “great loss” not only to his family and the Army but to the nation as a whole, the Ministry highlighted the critical contributions of Lt. General Lagbaja to Nigeria’s security.

The Ministry expressed its shock over the sudden loss, emphasizing the productive and cooperative relationship they had with Lt. General Lagbaja.

“His spirit of camaraderie and cooperation in carrying out our national defense mandate was truly commendable,” the statement read.

The late Chief of Army Staff was celebrated for his dedication to internal security operations across Nigeria, as well as his commitment to professionalism in the armed forces.

His leadership and service were seen as instrumental in fostering stability and security in many regions of the country.

Reflecting on his legacy, the Ministry noted, “He will be greatly missed by his family, the military, and the nation, as he served Nigeria with unwavering dedication and commitment.”

The Ministry concluded by offering prayers for the repose of Lt. General Lagbaja’s soul, expressing hope that he may rest peacefully.
