In a bid to bolster local production and innovation in defence equipment, the Ministry of Defence has announced a collaborative effort with the University of Abuja through the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON).
During a courtesy visit by the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Abdul-Rasheed Na’Allah, to the Honourable Minister of Defence, H.E. Mohammed Badaru Abubakar CON, mni, discussions centered on leveraging the research capabilities of the university to enhance the production of military hardware.
Minister Badaru emphasized the importance of research in driving meaningful development, stating, “For any useful development, there must be research.”
He highlighted the University of Abuja’s status as a hub for research, particularly in engineering fields, as a potential asset in the collaboration.
Expressing gratitude for the visit, Minister Badaru assured the Vice-Chancellor of the Ministry’s commitment to facilitating a fruitful partnership between DICON and the University.
He reiterated DICON’s role as the primary military industry responsible for the production of defence equipment in Nigeria.
In response, Professor Na’Allah affirmed the University’s readiness to engage in collaborative research efforts aimed at enhancing national security.
He emphasized the institution’s research capabilities and willingness to support initiatives that contribute to the country’s defence sector.
