Minister of Defence Commiserates with Governor Zulum Over Maiduguri Flooding


The Honourable Minister of Defence, His Excellency Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has expressed his deep sympathy to the Executive Governor of Borno State, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, and the people of the state, following the severe floods that have affected Maiduguri, the state capital.

The flooding, caused by the overflow of the Alau Dam, has led to widespread damage to properties and displaced many residents, worsening the challenges already faced by the region.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, Minister Badaru conveyed his sorrow over the disaster, describing it as a significant hardship for the people of Maiduguri.

“I am deeply saddened by the unfortunate flooding in Maiduguri, which has displaced families and caused untold hardship to the people of this great city. My thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families during this difficult time,” he said.

The Minister also praised Governor Zulum for his prompt and effective response to the crisis, commending the governor’s efforts in alleviating the suffering of the affected residents.

“I want to commend His Excellency Governor Zulum for the quick response and decisive actions taken to alleviate the suffering of the affected residents.

The resilience of the Borno people in the face of adversity is remarkable, and I have no doubt that under Governor Zulum’s leadership, Maiduguri will recover swiftly from this disaster,” Badaru added.

The Ministry of Defence joins the people of Nigeria in extending thoughts and prayers to all those affected by the flooding as relief efforts continue in the region.
