In the relentless battle against terrorism, the armed forces have made significant strides in the ongoing military operations conducted nationwide from January to March 2024.
Despite facing a formidable adversary, the military remains steadfast, well-equipped, and resolute in its mission to eradicate terrorism and its supporting infrastructure.
“Our aim is to eradicate terrorism and the infrastructure that sustains it,” declared Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations.
During this period, the military intensified efforts in intelligence gathering, strategic strikes, and coordinated operations aimed at disrupting terrorist activities.
Notable achievements include the neutralization of high-profile terrorist commanders such as Abu Bilal Minuki, also known as Abubakar Mainok, who headed the Is-Al Furqan Province (ISGS and ISWAP). Minuki, notorious for his operations along the Birnin Gwari Forest in Kaduna State and the Abuja Kaduna Highway, was eliminated by troops on 21st February 2024.
Other significant victories include the neutralization of Kachallah Damina and over 50 combatants in March 2024, alongside the arrest of 2,308 individuals and the rescue of 1,241 kidnapped hostages.
The military also recovered a substantial cache of weapons and ammunition, thwarted oil theft amounting to over N20 billion, and seized large quantities of stolen crude oil and illegally refined petroleum products.
The success of these operations can be attributed to synchronized ground and air strikes on terrorist hideouts, as well as ambushes, raids, and offensive actions carried out by troops.
In total, 2,351 terrorists were neutralized, and significant quantities of weapons and illicit goods were confiscated.
“This demonstrates the effectiveness and result-oriented nature of our ongoing operations,” affirmed Major General Edward Buba. “We are committed to raising the bar in the prosecution of the war against terrorism, ensuring the safety and security of all citizens.”
As the armed forces continue to intensify their efforts, citizens can expect to witness further incremental gains in the fight against terrorism, underscoring the unwavering determination of the military to protect the nation and its people.
