The Armed Forces of Nigeria have continued to make substantial progress in the fight against terrorism, violent extremism, and other criminal activities across the country.
Recent operations have disrupted the support networks of these groups, showcasing the military’s resolve and effectiveness.
In the North Central region, troops intercepted and apprehended two ammunition couriers collaborating with terrorists.
The suspects, identified as Danweri and Abubakar Hamza, were arrested in Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State and are reportedly cooperating with the military.
During the past week, troops achieved significant results nationwide, neutralized 148 terrorists, arrested 258 individuals, including 51 perpetrators of oil theft and rescued 291 kidnapped hostages.
In the South-South region, troops prevented oil theft valued at approximately ₦798.1 million.
Troops also recovered a total of 146 assorted weapons and 2,599 rounds of ammunition, including 2 PKT guns, 72 AK-47 rifles, 33 fabricated rifles, 28 dane guns, 2 locally made SMGs, 3 locally made pistols, and one RPG bomb.
Ammunition comprising 1,596 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 636 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, and 114 rounds of 7.62 x 54mm ammo.
Other recovered items include 3 vehicles, 36 motorcycles, 40 mobile phones, and cash totaling ₦1,838,000.
In the Niger Delta, troops uncovered and destroyed 68 crude oil cooking ovens, 66 illegal refining sites, 45 storage tanks, and 41 boats.
Troops equally recovered 657,470 liters of stolen crude oil, 127,870 liters of illegally refined diesel, and 5,000 liters of kerosene.
According to Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, troops remain focused on dismantling the operational capabilities and morale of terrorist groups. “Troops are in a good position and winning the war,” he stated.
The Armed Forces continue to call on citizens to support their efforts by providing timely and credible information to enhance national security.
