In response to escalating insecurity fueled by the activities of terrorists and bandits in the North West region, the Honourable Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Muhammed Matawalle, has issued a clarion call for intensified military operations to counter the menace.
Dr. Matawalle expressed grave concern over the increasing activities of bandits, particularly in Kaduna, Katsina, and Zamfara states, which have resulted in attacks on personnel, loss of lives, and the destruction of military hardware.
In light of these developments, the Minister directed the Nigerian Military to adopt a more proactive stance in dismantling the operations of bandits and addressing insecurity in the affected states. He stressed the importance of synergy among the various military services to effectively combat insurgency and other forms of criminality in the region.
“The safety and well-being of our citizens remain paramount,” Dr. Matawalle emphasized, underscoring the urgent need for decisive action to curb terrorism and banditry in communities across the region.
Beyond enhancing security, Dr. Matawalle highlighted the broader implications of these operations on agricultural activities. He noted that improved security would create a conducive environment for farming and irrigation, thereby ensuring food security and economic prosperity for the region.
“The enhanced security in the region will not only safeguard lives and properties but also bolster farming activities,” Dr. Matawalle remarked.
The Minister reaffirmed the commitment of the government led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to tackling insecurity head-on and ensuring the safety and well-being of all citizens. He called for cooperation from all stakeholders, urging communities to support security agencies in their efforts to eradicate criminal elements from the region.
