In a display of solidarity and unwavering commitment to his people, the Honourable Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Mohammed Matawalle MON, received a hero’s welcome as he returned to Zamfara State on Friday, December 20, 2024.
The former governor was greeted by over 50,000 jubilant supporters, including loyal members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who thronged the streets to celebrate his contributions to enhancing security in the region.
Dr. Matawalle’s decision to journey by road, rather than air, carried a powerful message of reassurance to citizens and the military.
His convoy traversed the Funtua-Sokoto Highway, where he commended soldiers stationed along the route for their bravery and dedication to combating insecurity.
“I am proud of the sacrifices our soldiers are making to protect our citizens. Their quick response and bravery have restored hope to communities previously under siege,” Dr. Matawalle said.
The Minister’s arrival at Yankara, the border town between Zamfara and Katsina States, sparked a wave of celebration. Thousands of supporters, including youths and APC faithful, lined the streets, singing songs of gratitude in Hausa for both President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Dr. Matawalle.
Their chants highlighted the success of ongoing military operations, which have significantly reduced kidnappings and eliminated notorious bandit kingpins.
As Dr. Matawalle’s convoy entered Gusau, the Zamfara State capital, the city transformed into a hub of festivities. Supporters expressed their renewed optimism under his leadership, reflecting the positive strides being made in addressing the state’s security challenges.
Along the route, Dr. Matawalle made several stops to sympathize with victims of past insecurity incidents, reinforcing his commitment to the welfare of the people.
The visit was notable for its peaceful atmosphere, with no incidents of harassment by security personnel reported. However, the absence of Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal, who reportedly left the state upon learning of Dr. Matawalle’s arrival, drew attention.
Dr. Matawalle’s return served as a reminder of his dedication to fostering peace and stability in Zamfara and Nigeria at large. His actions exemplify the impact of focused leadership and collaboration between federal and state authorities.
“Dr. Matawalle is not just a leader; he is a beacon of hope for a more secure Zamfara and Nigeria as a whole,” said one supporter.
The Minister’s homecoming stands as a testament to the progress achieved under his stewardship and his unwavering resolve to secure a brighter future for Zamfara State.
