In a strategic move to bolster the nation’s security apparatus, the Honourable Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Muhammed Bello Matawalle, presented two state-of-the-art unmanned water vessels to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Villa on Friday. The donation, a result of Matawalle’s recent visit to the USA, was made possible by Swift Ship Company, showcasing the fruitful partnerships the minister is fostering to address Nigeria’s security concerns.
The unmanned ships, named S2 and S3 Swift Sea Stalkers, are equipped with cutting-edge technologies that will be deployed to combat insecurity in crucial maritime regions, including the Niger Delta and Lake Chad. The presentation aligns with Matawalle’s vision to harness innovative technologies in enhancing the efficiency of the Nigerian military against contemporary security challenges.
During his visit to the USA, the Minister inspected prominent military hardware companies such as NEANY, Swift Ships, and OCR Global. Matawalle emphasized that this partnership would not only strengthen Nigeria’s security but also potentially lead to local production of military hardware in collaboration with Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON).
Dr. Matawalle conveyed to President Tinubu that the tour aimed at learning innovative ways of military hardware production, in line with the President’s agenda to bring lasting peace and security to the nation. The facilities inspected included rapid deployment mobile RADAR systems, unmanned water vehicles, drone ground control stations, and compact biometric search-scan systems.
In his briefing to Mr. President, the Minister assured that these cutting-edge military and intelligence capabilities would significantly contribute to the ongoing efforts to curb insecurity in Nigeria. The donation marks a crucial step towards a more secure and technologically advanced defense infrastructure for the nation.
