Matawalle Condemns Killing of Soldiers in Abia State

The Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Muhammed Bello Matawalle, has strongly condemned the recent killing of soldiers in Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State.

The attack, which occurred at Obikabia junction, was carried out by individuals masquerading as members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

In a press release issued on Saturday, Dr. Matawalle described the killing of the five soldiers as “barbaric, abominable, and wicked.”

He expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the military personnel, who were on duty to protect innocent citizens.

The Minister stressed that the soldiers were brutally assassinated without any provocation while performing their lawful duties.

Dr. Matawalle vowed that the perpetrators of this heinous act would be brought to justice, emphasizing that such reprehensible actions would not deter the Nigerian Military.

He extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased soldiers and to the entire Nigerian Military, urging the troops to remain steadfast in their mission.

“The government is committed to supporting the Military in their efforts to defeat IPOB, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), and other criminal elements across the country,” Dr. Matawalle stated.

He highlighted the importance of local communities in the fight against terrorism, calling on citizens to provide valuable information to aid military operations and maintain faith in Nigeria’s security efforts.

Henshaw Ogubike, the Director of Information and Public Relations for the Ministry of Defence, echoed the Minister’s sentiments and reiterated the government’s dedication to ensuring the security and safety of all Nigerians.

This incident underscores the ongoing challenges faced by the Nigerian Military in combating non-state actors and maintaining peace and security in various regions of the country.

The Ministry of Defence calls for unity and cooperation among all citizens to overcome these threats and achieve lasting peace.
