The Honourable Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Muhammed Matawalle, has briefed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the security situation in the North-West following his recent operational tours of Sokoto State.
The briefing, which took place on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, highlighted the significant strides made by the Nigerian Military in combating insecurity in the region.
Dr. Matawalle praised the Nigerian Armed Forces for their dedication and professionalism in addressing the threats posed by bandits and terrorists in the North-West.
He emphasized their critical role in safeguarding the nation and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing the necessary resources to maintain operational efficiency.
“The Nigerian Military continues to play a pivotal role in protecting our nation, and their successes on the ground reflect the strength of their efforts,” Dr. Matawalle stated.
During his operational visit to Sokoto, the minister was accompanied by the Chief of Defence Staff and other military chiefs. Together, they oversaw operations that led to the elimination of key bandit leaders, including notorious criminal Halilu Buzu Sububu.
These efforts demonstrate the federal government’s resolve to eradicate insecurity in the region.
Dr. Matawalle also commended President Tinubu’s administration for its unwavering support in bolstering the capacity of the Nigerian Air Force as part of a broader strategy to tackle the security challenges in the North-West.
He called on residents of Sokoto, Zamfara, Katsina, and Kebbi states to remain vigilant and continue cooperating with security forces to ensure the ongoing success of military operations.
President Tinubu expressed satisfaction with the progress made in the region and lauded the renewed determination of both the military and Dr. Matawalle to rid the North-West of insecurity.
He assured that his administration would continue to prioritize security as a key aspect of national development.
The briefing marks a significant step in the government’s efforts to restore peace and stability to the troubled region.
Henshaw Ogubike, Director of Information and Public Relations for the Ministry of Defence, also commended the troops’ efforts, reiterating the ministry’s dedication to securing all parts of the country.
