Man Arrested for Attempted Suicide Sent for Mental Evaluation


The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) police command has sent Shuaibu Alhaji Yushau to the Social Development Secretariat (SDS) for a mental health assessment following his alarming actions on Monday, July 8, 2024. Yushau caused public distress by climbing a high broadband mast at ASO Radio in Katampe, Abuja, in an attempt to take his own life.

The police have stated that if Yushau is found mentally stable after the evaluation, he will face charges in court. These charges include attempted suicide, disturbance of public peace, and incitement, as stipulated under sections 231, 111, and 114 of the Penal Code Act.

Commissioner of Police, FCT, CP Benneth C. Igweh, has urged residents to remain law-abiding while expressing their concerns. He emphasized that the police will not tolerate any actions that threaten the maintenance of law and order.
