Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, has commended about 50 members of the House, led by Hon. Obi Aguocha, for calling on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to release the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPoB), Mazi Kalu Nnamdi.
Kalu, who represents Bende Federal Constituency of Abia State, applauded the lawmakers from across the six geopolitical zones and different political parties for their support, stating that it signifies unity and a noble objective.
The Deputy Speaker, who has been advocating for Kanu’s release through private engagements with authorities, revealed that a milestone has been reached in achieving a political solution. He expressed gratitude to the lawmakers and urged Ndi Igbo to remain calm and hopeful, avoiding provocative comments.
Kalu emphasized that the present administration prioritizes the South East’s development, citing the South East Development Commission (SEDC) bill transmitted to the President for assent. He assured that a political solution is imminent, thanking the lawmakers and Nigerians for their support.
The Deputy Speaker warned against using Kanu’s incarceration for personal gain, emphasizing that his release is crucial for peace in the South East. He expressed appreciation for the support, saying, “United we stand, divided we fall.”
