The Minister of Defence, H.E. Muhammad Badaru Abubakar, CON, mni, has paid a condolence visit to the Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State following recent deadly attacks in the region, assuring the affected community of the federal government’s resolve to end the cycle of violence.
The Minister, accompanied by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Ambassador Gabriel Tanimu Aduda, was received by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division Nigerian Army and Commander of Operation Safe Haven, Major General Folusho Oyilola.
During the visit, the Minister offered prayers and sympathized with families who lost loved ones, as well as those who sustained injuries in the attack. “It is imperative that we put an end to the cycle of violence that has plagued this region,” he said.
He conveyed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s deep concern over the persistent insecurity in Plateau State, stating that the President had given strict directives to ensure that those responsible for the attacks are identified, apprehended, and brought to justice.
“Mr. President is deeply concerned about the security challenges in Plateau State and has directed us to ensure that the perpetrators of these heinous acts are apprehended and brought to justice. The GOC and other security agencies have committed to this mission and assured me that no effort will be spared,” he affirmed.
The Minister highlighted ongoing collaboration with the Plateau State Government to establish proactive security structures aimed at preventing future incidents. He also called on community leaders to support intelligence-gathering efforts critical to tackling the crisis.
“It is essential to recognize the ongoing efforts being made. While the geographical landscape is vast and the communities are dispersed, I am confident that through intelligence sharing, the involvement of community elders, persistent prayers, and the unwavering commitment of Mr. President, we will address the root causes of this crisis,” he concluded.
The visit underscores the federal government’s dedication to restoring peace and stability in Plateau and other regions affected by communal violence.
