Improved Armoured Personnel Carriers Deployed to Tackle Insecurity in Nigeria

In a decisive move to bolster Nigeria’s fight against insecurity, the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has proudly announced the reception of an enhanced fleet of Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs).

This significant development was marked by a brief ceremony on May 8, 2024, where the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, Dr Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, stood in for the Minister of Defence, Alhaji Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, to officially hand over the documents and keys of 20 advanced APCs to the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa.

The newly acquired APCs represent a substantial upgrade, featuring advanced weaponry and state-of-the-art communication systems capable of pinpointing adversaries from a distance and engaging them with precision.

This technological leap ensures enhanced operational efficiency and effectiveness in military engagements.

During the handover ceremony, the Permanent Secretary expressed his satisfaction with the collaborative efforts among the military services and commended the decision to engage local manufacturers in the production of the APCs.

He lauded this initiative for its potential to save costs, generate employment opportunities for Nigerians, and reduce dependency on foreign imports, thus bolstering the nation’s economic resilience.

In response, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, CDS, conveyed his gratitude to the Minister of Defence for the strategic acquisition, emphasizing the commitment to leveraging these advanced carriers to their full capacity.

He underscored their pivotal role in augmenting ongoing operations aimed at eradicating insecurity across the country.

Notably, the APCs were manufactured and supplied by an indigenous company based in Nigeria, reflecting a significant milestone in domestic arms production capabilities.

Engineer Kola Balogun, Chairman of the company, affirmed their commitment to providing comprehensive support services, including operator training, maintenance, spare parts supply, and repairs.

Furthermore, he revealed plans to expand their reach by exporting these advanced machines to foreign markets, thereby contributing to Nigeria’s foreign currency earnings.

This latest deployment of improved APCs signifies a decisive step forward in Nigeria’s security architecture, harnessing indigenous technological capabilities to confront emerging threats and safeguard national interests.
