In a bid to enhance public safety and operational efficiency, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has issued a directive for the implementation of a New Year Strategic Action Plan aimed at reducing crime across Nigeria.
The announcement, made through a press release on January 12, 2025, outlines comprehensive measures to strengthen policing efforts and improve community relations.
The IGP emphasized the importance of proactive, intelligence-led policing, urging officers nationwide to prioritize strategic planning and statistical analysis in tackling criminal activities.
“We must shift from a reactive approach to a more proactive stance,” the IGP stated, highlighting the need for vigilance, attitudinal change, and strengthened community engagement.
The Action Plan, set for implementation in the first quarter of 2025, includes initiatives such as enhanced training, capacity building, public awareness campaigns, and measures to reinforce officers’ commitment to public safety.
The IGP also reiterated the importance of professionalism and integrity, urging officers to uphold the highest ethical standards in their interactions with the public.
To ensure the effective execution of this directive, the IGP will hold a virtual meeting with the Strategic Commanders of the Nigeria Police Force on Monday, January 13, 2025.
The meeting is expected to serve as a platform for outlining operational strategies and addressing the evolving challenges of law enforcement in the country.
The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, stated that the IGP’s directive represents a renewed commitment to crime prevention and public safety in 2025.
Officers across all commands and formations have been charged with adopting innovative strategies and fostering stronger community partnerships.
With the implementation of this strategic action plan, the Nigeria Police Force aims to significantly reduce crime rates and enhance public confidence in law enforcement.
