IGP Presents Insurance Cheques to Families of Fallen Officers, Launches Claims Management Portal

In a significant move to support the families of fallen police officers, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, today presented insurance benefit cheques to the next of kin of 706 deceased officers.

The event, held at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Peacekeeping Hall, Force Headquarters, Abuja, also marked the unveiling of the Nigeria Police Insurance Claims Management Portal (npfinsuranceclaimsmgt.ng), aimed at streamlining the insurance claims process for beneficiaries.

The ceremony was attended by senior police officers, members of the Force Management Team, insurance industry stakeholders, and the beneficiaries of the scheme.

The IGP reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to ensuring prompt payment of insurance benefits, addressing a long-standing backlog of claims that had caused financial strain on many families. He noted that from 2010 to 2023, a total of N17.8 billion had been disbursed in eight phases to 6,465 beneficiaries.

Furthering this initiative, the IGP announced the release of an additional N2.99 billion to 706 beneficiaries covering policy years 2020–2024. This ninth phase raises the total amount disbursed to N20.84 billion, benefiting 7,171 families.

To enhance efficiency and transparency, the newly launched Nigeria Police Insurance Claims Management Portal is designed to simplify the claims process, eliminate delays, and ensure seamless access to benefits.

In addition, a specialized training program has been introduced for Insurance Desk Officers across the 17 Zonal Commands and 37 State Commands to improve service delivery in claims management.

Reiterating the Force’s dedication to the welfare of its personnel, both serving and retired, the IGP assured that efforts would continue to provide necessary support to the families of fallen officers.

The event underscores the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to ensuring financial security for the families of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
