IGP Egbetokun Holds Virtual Conference with Police Leaders, Orders Comprehensive Training for CID Investigators

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has outlined a strategic plan to enhance professionalism within the Nigeria Police Force during a virtual conference held today, January 13, 2025, with the Force’s strategic managers.

The meeting included tactical commanders, Commissioners of Police (CPs), Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs), and the Force Management Team.

The IGP commended officers for their efforts in combating crime in 2024 and called for a renewed commitment to reducing criminal activities significantly in 2025.

He stressed the need for professionalism in police duties and announced the immediate commencement of specialized training for Criminal Investigation Department (CID) investigators.

The training is aimed at equipping investigators with the skills required to handle complex and high-profile cases effectively, bolstering the investigative capabilities of the Force.

As part of efforts to improve service delivery, the IGP directed the implementation of reorientation programs to foster attitudinal change among police personnel.

These programs will focus on human rights, community policing, ethical conduct, and the proportional use of force, emphasizing the Force’s commitment to public service with integrity and respect.

To sustain these initiatives, the IGP ordered the introduction of weekly lectures at all levels, including divisional, area command, and state levels.

These sessions will provide opportunities for continuous professional development, ensuring officers remain informed about evolving legal frameworks, best policing practices, and advancements in law enforcement technology.

The lectures will also encourage interactive discussions and knowledge sharing, fostering a culture of learning and improvement across the Force.

IGP Egbetokun urged all strategic managers to maintain proactive leadership in their commands and consistently motivate personnel to uphold professionalism and public peace.

He emphasized that accountability at all levels is essential, warning that supervisors will be held responsible for any misconduct by their subordinates.

The IGP reaffirmed his dedication to building a more effective, accountable, and trustworthy police force capable of meeting the expectations of the Nigerian public.
