IGP Collaborates with INTERPOL to Combat Transnational Crime in West Africa


Inspector General of Police, Dr. Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, NPM, joined senior officials from INTERPOL in France on April 26, 2024, to discuss strategies for tackling transnational organized crime.

The meeting, chaired by Major General Ahmed Naser Al-Raisi, President of INTERPOL, aimed to bolster cooperation among law enforcement agencies to combat cross-border criminal activities.

The discussions centered on leveraging INTERPOL’s resources to combat organized crime, with a particular focus on Nigeria and the wider West African region.

Dr. Egbetokun, also the Chairman of the West African Police Chiefs Committee (WAPCCO), underscored the significance of collaborative efforts in addressing security challenges that transcend national boundaries.

Key representatives including INTERPOL Secretary General Dr. Jurgen Stock, Executive Director of Police Services Mr. Stephen Kavenaugh, Vice President of INTERPOL for Africa AIG Garba Baba Umar (Rtd.), and AIG Stanley Ude (AIG INTERPOL Abuja) were present during the deliberations.

The Inspector General highlighted the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to partnering with other law enforcement agencies and utilizing advanced e-policing capabilities to dismantle organized crime networks operating within Nigeria and across its borders.

The engagement signifies a step forward in the collective fight against transnational crime, signaling a united front among law enforcement agencies to ensure the safety and security of citizens in the region.
