“I WILL STRIVE TO EQUIP THE DIRECTORATE WITH THE LATEST SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE TO ENHANCE HIGH-QUALITY MEDIA CONTENT” – Lt Col Anele

The Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Lt Col Appolonia Anele, has stated that her leadership will strive to equip the Directorate of Army Public Relations with the latest skills and knowledge to enable personnel to produce high-quality media content. This, she noted, will involve leveraging new techniques and meeting the evolving needs of the audience.

She made this known during the graduation ceremony of participants of the Strategic Communication Officers Course 2/2025, held at the Lt Gen Taoreed Lagbaja Auditorium, Muhammadu Buhari Cantonment, Giri, Abuja.

Lt Col Anele emphasized that a strong commitment to personnel development will drive her mission, which will be anchored on the pillars of innovation, professionalism, competence, positive command, excellence, and sustainability within the Directorate.

She noted that this approach will ultimately enhance the Directorate’s reputation and impact in the media landscape. She further stated that the knowledge and skills acquired during the course have made the participants better informed.

She therefore urged the graduating officers to uphold the knowledge imparted to them and embody the core values of the Nigerian Army as they return to their respective units.

The Army Spokesperson expressed her gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt Gen OO Oluyede, NAM, under whose guidance the Directorate has attained a commendable level of proficiency. She also acknowledged the Chief of Training (COT), Maj Gen AS Ndalolo, through whose office resources were made available for the course.

Furthermore, she appreciated the contributions of resource persons drawn from the University of Northern Iowa, USA; the University of Abuja; the National Open University of Nigeria; and Philomath University, Abuja, for exposing the participants to global trends in the media space.

Earlier, the Acting Commandant of NASPRI, Lt Col Adamu Ngulde, stressed in his remarks that the Strategic Communication Course was designed to enhance participants’ capabilities in influence operations, managing institutional narratives, and aligning military communication with national security objectives.

He noted that their expertise will serve as a decisive tool in both peace and conflict situations—especially in an era where narratives shape the battlespace as much as bullets. He reminded the participants that, as public relations and strategic communication professionals, their roles transcend the ordinary.

They are the architects of trust between the military and the public; hence, their voices, words, and strategic messaging will influence perception, bolster morale, and defend the credibility of the Nigerian Army both at home and abroad.

Delivering the course appraisal, the Acting Chief Instructor (CI) of the school, Maj T Wenke, expressed great satisfaction with the high level of discipline and determination displayed by the participants throughout the course.

He explained that participants were taken through both theoretical and practical assessments in a variety of subjects aimed at enhancing their proficiency in the field. He also commended their active involvement in the school’s routine activities, including morning physical training and evening games.

Highlights of the event included the presentation of certificates to the participants, presentation of awards to those who distinguished themselves during the course, a group photograph in front of the NASPRI Admin Complex, and a tree-planting campaign within the NASPRI Cantonment.
