Senator Ibrahim Gaidam, the Honourable Minister of Police Affairs, underscored the pivotal role of the German government in fortifying law enforcement efforts in Nigeria during a recent visit by Her Excellency, Annett Gunther, the German Ambassador to Nigeria.
Senator Gaidam emphasized that the German government’s unwavering commitment to advancing policing services and reforms has positioned it as an indispensable ally in Nigeria’s quest for enhanced security and law enforcement capabilities.
“The generous support extended by the German Government towards police reforms has made significant impacts on our organization and the community we serve,” Senator Gaidam stated during the visit at the Ministry of Police Affairs headquarters in Abuja.
He further reiterated the Nigerian government’s dedication, under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, to elevating the professionalism and capabilities of the Nigerian police force, expressing gratitude for the resources, expertise, and guidance provided by Germany.
The meeting between Minister Gaidam and Ambassador Gunther also served as an opportunity to assess and strengthen the alliance between the two nations, particularly in crucial areas of security cooperation, counter-terrorism, and other dimensions of security.
Highlighting specific areas of collaboration, Senator Gaidam outlined key initiatives such as training and capacity building, technology and equipment support, intelligence sharing, police reforms, institutional strengthening, community engagement programs, counterterrorism cooperation, and legal and judicial support.
Ambassador Gunther echoed the sentiments of cooperation, citing the German government’s engagement in training over 1000 police trainers and refurbishing training institutions in Nigeria.
She emphasized that supporting police reforms remains a cornerstone of Germany’s engagement in Nigeria, dating back to significant agreements signed 50 years ago.
The visit further solidified the strong partnership and friendship between Germany and Nigeria, with both nations expressing eagerness to deepen collaboration in combating violent extremism
