Gaidam Urges Police Academy Graduands to Uphold Discipline, Integrity and Service to Humanity

The Minister of Police Affairs, Senator Ibrahim Gaidam, has called on newly graduated officers of the Nigeria Police Academy (POLAC) to uphold the highest standards of discipline, integrity and service to humanity as they join the ranks of the Nigeria Police Force.

Gaidam made the charge during the convocation ceremony of Regular Courses 1 to 7 of the Academy, held in Wudil, Kano State. The event was declared open by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Police Affairs, Dr. Anuma Ogbonnaya Nlia, who represented the Minister.

Describing the Academy as a cornerstone of Nigeria’s security architecture, the Minister said its graduates are equipped with world-class knowledge, strong ethical grounding and operational capacity needed to strengthen policing nationwide.

“The badge they wear is not merely a symbol of authority; it is a reminder of the trust the Nigerian people place in them. Let your conduct reflect the values of transparency, accountability, respect for human rights, and strict adherence to the rule of law,” Gaidam stated.

He emphasised that the ceremony marks not only an academic milestone but also a renewed commitment to developing a modern, highly skilled and professional Police Force capable of addressingu Nigeria’s evolving security landscape.

The Minister noted that the graduands are stepping into service at a time when the nation faces serious security challenges, including insurgency, banditry, cybercrime, kidnapping and violent extremism. He expressed confidence that their training has adequately prepared them to confront these threats with professionalism, courage and sound judgment.

Gaidam reaffirmed the Ministry’s dedication to ongoing reforms aimed at modernising and repositioning the Nigeria Police Force. These reforms, he said, include strategic capacity-building programmes, improved welfare, enhanced training facilities and the adoption of technology-driven policing methods.

He congratulated the graduands and their families for their resilience and support throughout the training period. He also commended the Academy’s Commandant, AIG Patrick Atayero, the management team, faculty members, instructors and support staff for their commitment to nurturing the next generation of police leaders.

The convocation was attended by top security and government officials, including the Registrar of the Nigeria Defence Academy (NDA), Brigadier General Ogunleye; the Provost of POLAC; the Deputy Inspector General (FCID), DIG Idris Abubakar Sadiq; and the Executive Chairman of Wudil Local Government Area, Abba Muhammad Tukur.
