Gaidam Charges 462 Newly Commissioned Police Cadets to Uphold Professionalism

The Honourable Minister of Police Affairs, Senator Ibrahim Gaidam, has called on 462 newly commissioned police cadets to demonstrate dedication, effectiveness, and professionalism as they embark on their careers.

Gaidam made the charge during the passing-out parade ceremony of the 6th Regular Course 2018 Cadets at the Academy Parade Ground, Police College, Wudil, Kano State, on September 8, 2024. The event was reviewed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima.

Addressing the cadets, Gaidam emphasized the importance of their roles in enhancing efficient police service delivery.

He noted that after five years of rigorous academic and professional training, the newly commissioned officers are expected to add value to the police ecosystem and uphold fairness and accountability in their duties.

“It is indeed a privilege to serve Nigeria and work towards the noble goal of ensuring the safety and security of our citizens,” Gaidam said.

“Undoubtedly, there is still much work to be done. You should be fully aware of the challenges that lie ahead and acknowledge the complexities associated with policing. However, you should be resolute in your commitment to bringing about lasting change.”

The Minister also highlighted the importance of community engagement and trust-building, urging the cadets to be actively involved in the communities they serve.

He stressed that fostering cooperation and partnership within communities is key to creating a unified front against crime.

Gaidam further noted that the Ministry of Police Affairs is currently leading policy reforms and administrative initiatives aimed at bolstering the operational efficiency of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).

These initiatives include engaging stakeholders through town hall meetings and reinforcing the Police Community Relations Committee to enhance community safety.

He commended the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, and his management team, as well as the Commandant of the Police College, for their dedication to shaping the future leaders of the Nigeria Police Force.

Gaidam charged the cadets to continue building community partnerships and deepening citizens’ participation in policing efforts, in line with President Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda.”

The ceremony, which was attended by the Executive Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, also saw the participation of high-ranking police officials and dignitaries.
