The Forum of Elected Former Councillors in Jigawa State has commended the Honourable Minister of Defence and former Governor of Jigawa State, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, for his exceptional leadership and commitment to grassroots governance.
During a courtesy visit to his residence in Kano on Friday, the Forum presented Badaru with a plaque of appreciation in recognition of his unprecedented gesture of clearing all outstanding severance allowances owed to local government councillors from 1999 to 2023 — a feat described as a landmark in the state’s democratic history.
Speaking on behalf of the group, the Chairman of the Forum, Alhaji Mustafá Isyaku Sholy, lauded Badaru for his inclusive governance and dedication to the welfare of public officeholders at all levels. He noted that the councillors experienced goodwill and support during his tenure and expressed the Forum’s deep gratitude.
The former councillors also reaffirmed their unwavering support and loyalty to Badaru, pledging to stand by him in his current role as Defence Minister and in his ongoing political journey within Jigawa State.
The event drew the presence of prominent personalities, including Hon. Abubakar Sadiq Jallo, Member representing Hadejia Constituency in the Jigawa State House of Assembly, and Alhaji Ahmed Rufai Gumel, former Chairman of Gumel Local Government.
The Forum described the gathering as a celebration of purposeful leadership and a reminder of the enduring impact of responsive governance.
