The Federal Government College (FGC) Warri is marking six decades of academic excellence, unity, and leadership development with the planned launch of a Technology and Innovation Centre for students as part of its Diamond Jubilee celebrations.
The Global President of the Federal Government College Warri Old Students Association (FEGOCOWOSA), Dr. Godwin Amobi Alo, disclosed this at a news conference in Abuja ahead of the anniversary events.
Dr. Alo said the centre is aimed at equipping students with practical skills required for success in the 21st-century global economy, offering hands-on training in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), including robotics, artificial intelligence, programming, and virtual and augmented reality.
He noted that the facility will also support the Federal Government’s transition to Computer-Based Testing (CBT), enabling students to register for and sit examinations within the school, in line with Nigeria’s digital education policy.
According to him, the school’s ₦3 billion Legacy Fund will further finance the development of a world-class sports complex to promote physical and mental wellbeing, as well as a post-college scholarship endowment to support outstanding graduates pursuing higher education, technical, or vocational training.
The Diamond Jubilee celebrations will be held in three phases across Lagos, Abuja, and Warri to ensure nationwide participation.
Phase One is scheduled for January 31, 2026, in Lagos, featuring an Anniversary Ball and Fund-Raising Dinner. Phase Two will take place in Abuja on February 5, 2026, with keynote addresses, panel discussions, education advocacy sessions, and FEGOCOWOSA’s Annual General Congress. The Grand Finale will be held in Warri from February 12 to 15, 2026, and will include a road carnival, commissioning of projects, school inspection, a special assembly with alumni, a student luncheon, and an Awards Night on February 14.
Dr. Alo called on alumni, stakeholders, and the public to support the Legacy Fund, stressing that sustained investment in education and skills development is critical to national growth and global competitiveness.
He added that FGC Warri remains committed to producing future leaders and innovators, strengthening its position as a STEM-ready institution contributing to Nigeria’s development.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Central Planning Committee for the Diamond Jubilee and former Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, Mrs. Ifueko Omoigui Okauru, said the Technology and Innovation Centre aligns with national policies promoting technical and STEM education.
She said the combined initiatives—including the sports complex and scholarship endowment—will ensure students are well-prepared for tertiary education and capable of thriving in the global innovation ecosystem.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the FCT Branch, Mr. Sanmi Ajayi, emphasized the need for effective coordination and communication among committee members ahead of the Abuja event on February 5, 2026, to guarantee the overall success of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations.
