The Federal Capital Territory Administration’s Directorate of Road Traffic Service (DRTS), commonly known as VIO, has conducted a targeted operation resulting in the seizure of multiple motorcycles along key routes in Abuja.
This crackdown comes in response to reports of individuals exploiting the guise of motorcycle riders to carry out attacks on unsuspecting residents.
Osho Deborah, Head of Operations at DRTS, emphasized the necessity of restoring safety to affected areas following complaints from residents about nighttime thefts by motorcycle riders.
Deborah reiterated DRTS’s commitment to enforcing traffic regulations and eliminating unauthorized motorcycle operations in the city. Additionally, plans are underway to seek judicial approval for the disposal of impounded motorcycles as a deterrent measure.
Dr. Peter Olumuji, Secretary of Command and Control at FCTA, echoed support for the operation, citing concerns raised by local residents about security threats posed by unauthorized motorcycle activities.
He also clarified misconceptions regarding the use of motorcycles recently distributed to security agencies, emphasizing their exclusive use for security purposes.
