The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command confirmed the collapse of a building at Unity House, Area 11 by Nkwere Street on the evening of July 1, 2024. The incident, which occurred at approximately 8:40 p.m., prompted an immediate response from the FCT Police.
Upon receiving the distress call, Commissioner of Police for the FCT, CP Benneth C. Igweh, swiftly deployed multiple patrol teams to the scene. The area was promptly cordoned off to facilitate rescue operations. Three victims were successfully extracted from the rubble and rushed to the hospital for medical attention.
In a coordinated effort to manage the aftermath of the collapse, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and FCT Development Control were promptly alerted and have since taken over the site for further search and management.
