FCT Police Recovers Stolen Vehicle After Intense Gun Battle

In a daring operation, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command successfully recovered a stolen vehicle and firearm after responding to a carjacking incident in Lugbe.

The operation, which involved a high-speed chase and a gunfight, highlights the swift action and effectiveness of the FCT Police in tackling criminal activities.

The incident began on the evening of November 21, 2024, when Engr. Halimat Adediru was ambushed by six armed men under a pedestrian bridge on Alieta Road, Lugbe.

The assailants forcibly removed her and her driver from her 2012 black Toyota Land Cruiser Prado (registration number ABJ 670 EY) and fled with the vehicle and her belongings, including cash and an international passport.

A good Samaritan, who witnessed the robbery, immediately alerted the FCT Police Command, providing details of the stolen vehicle and the suspects’ escape route. The police promptly deployed patrol teams and alerted strategic checkpoints across the city.

At approximately 11:35 PM, officers intercepted the stolen vehicle at a checkpoint near Dantata Bridge on Galadimawa Road. Despite police attempts to stop the suspects, they fled, prompting a high-speed chase towards the Airport Junction.

The suspects opened fire on the police at another checkpoint, leading to a fierce gun battle. Overwhelmed by the superior firepower of the police, the suspects abandoned the vehicle and a firearm before escaping into the surrounding bushes.

The recovered vehicle, along with Engr. Adediru’s belongings, was returned to her. She expressed gratitude to the police for their prompt and professional response.

Speaking on the operation, Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu, praised the swift action of the bystander who reported the crime and commended the officers involved in the recovery.

He encouraged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, emphasizing that such cooperation is crucial in maintaining public safety.
