In a press briefing held today, 13th May 2024, at the FCT Police Command Headquarters in Abuja, Commissioner of Police Benneth C. Igweh outlined significant achievements in the ongoing battle against crime and criminal elements within the Federal Capital Territory.
Among the notable successes, CP Igweh highlighted the apprehension of two notorious car theft suspects, Anthony Chibuzor and Jonas Chikwe, both hailing from Lagos State.
The duo, long sought by law enforcement, were nabbed by police operatives of Apo Legislative Quarters following diligent surveillance.
The operation resulted in the recovery of three stolen vehicles, including a Toyota Camry, an Audi A4, and a Honda Accord Sports, all with altered chassis numbers, indicating their involvement in illicit activities.
In a separate incident, the swift response of Maitama Division officers to an armed robbery (one chance) incident along Nicon Junction led to the arrest of four suspects: Hamza Ibrahim, Mubarak Abubakar, Abubakar Suleiman, and Mohammed Lawal. The victim, relieved of her possessions, was rescued, and the suspects confessed to their involvement in the crime.
Furthermore, the diligent efforts of Durumi Division personnel culminated in the apprehension of Kabiru Umar, implicated in a housebreaking and theft case. Umar was caught in possession of stolen cash, and subsequent interrogation led to the recovery of a portion of the stolen funds.
Additionally, the relentless pursuit of justice by Lugbe Division officers resulted in the arrest of six individuals involved in an armed robbery incident targeting a commuter.
The perpetrators, apprehended with a cache of firearms and ammunition, were responsible for the theft of over two million naira from the victim.
In total, twelve suspects were apprehended, five stolen vehicles were recovered, along with four locally made firearms, and over two million naira in stolen funds.
