The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has made significant strides in combating criminal activities within the city, as revealed by the Commissioner of Police, CP Benneth C. Igweh, during a press briefing today.
On August 23, 2024, during a routine stop-and-search operation, FCT police operatives arrested Abdulrasheed Muhammed, a member of the Nigerian Navy, in possession of a stolen black Prado SUV.
Further investigation revealed that the vehicle belonged to the late Aminu Ibrahim, son of former Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral I. Ibrahim, who was brutally murdered and robbed of his vehicle on August 18, 2024, in Maitama.
The suspect, who attempted to escape from custody, confessed to being part of a three-man gang specializing in the armed robbery and sale of luxury vehicles. Efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining gang members.

In a tragic incident on August 25, 2024, six police officers were attacked by members of the proscribed Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), also known as the Shiite group, at Wuse Market Junction.
The officers, who were on duty, were ambushed with weapons including dane-guns, machetes, and improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
Sadly, ASP Innocent Agabi and Inspector Alex Odeh succumbed to their injuries, while four other officers remain in critical condition. The attackers also set ablaze three police patrol vehicles and damaged another.
So far, 94 members of the sect have been apprehended, and investigations are ongoing.
On August 27, 2024, the FCT Police Command arrested twin brothers, Obike David and Obike Stanley, for their involvement in ATM card theft.
The suspects, who targeted individuals unfamiliar with ATM operations, would swap victims’ cards and withdraw funds from their accounts. The twins have confessed to the crime and will face prosecution.
CP Igweh reiterated the FCT Police Command’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of residents in the Federal Capital Territory. He assured the public that the command would continue to work tirelessly to rid the city of criminal elements.
The Commissioner of Police expressed gratitude to the public and the press for their ongoing support and cooperation.
