FCT Police Achieve Major Breakthroughs in Crime Fighting Efforts: Impounds 296 Vehicles

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has recorded significant achievements in its fight against crime, including the arrest of several suspects involved in robberies, vandalism, and impersonation, Commissioner of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu announced today.

Speaking during a press briefing at the FCT Police Command headquarters, CP Disu highlighted the Command’s proactive efforts to address security challenges in the territory.

He thanked residents for their cooperation and outlined the successes achieved since the launch of the Command’s Special Tactical Team.

The Command foiled five “One Chance” robbery operations in recent weeks, rescuing three victims, including a heavily pregnant woman. Among the key arrests:

Ibrahim Kabiru, caught with stolen items, including a Point-of-Sale (POS) machine and luggage, was arrested on November 23.

Ikechukwu Ngerem was arrested on November 28 after a distress call reported an ongoing robbery along Idu Industrial Area Road. The victim, Doris Gabriel, was abducted on her way home from Federal Medical Center Jabi.

The Command also apprehended multiple suspects linked to robberies and vandalism:

Udoka Obiyo and Moses Anogwa, arrested on November 25 in Gwagwa Village, confessed to targeting residents and commuters.

Two 18-year-olds, Isa Muhammad and Musa Abdullahi, confessed to robbing victims at traffic points with knives and machetes.

Two suspects, including a dismissed police officer, were arrested on November 29 for vandalizing streetlight cables worth over ₦20 million.

A major breakthrough occurred on November 30 with the arrest of Emmanuel Linus, who impersonated a Nigerian Army officer using a fake ID. Investigations revealed Linus’s involvement in a fraud syndicate that uses fake bank alerts to swindle victims.

Police operatives recovered 60 cartons of stolen solar streetlights and accessories valued at millions of naira in Gwagwalada. Three suspects were arrested, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend accomplices.

CP Disu reiterated the Command’s zero-tolerance policy for crime and urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities. “Successful crime prevention is a shared responsibility,” he said, emphasizing the importance of community-police collaboration.

The Commissioner assured residents of the FCT that due diligence would be followed in prosecuting suspects and that the Command would continue working tirelessly to ensure the safety of lives and property in the territory.
