FCT ALGON Urges Striking Workers to Resume Work, Assures Commitment to Welfare

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) has appealed to striking workers in the Area Councils to return to their duties without further delay.

The FCT ALGON Secretary and Chairman of Bwari Area Council, Dr. John Gabaya, made the call during a news conference in Abuja.

He disclosed that all Area Council Chairmen in the FCT have approved and commenced the implementation of the national minimum wage.

Gabaya emphasized that while other concerns raised by the workers, such as arrears, are still under discussion, there is room for constructive dialogue.

He urged the workers to suspend the industrial action in the interest of service delivery and the well-being of residents.

Also speaking at the briefing, the FCT ALGON Chairman and Chairman of Kwali Area Council, Hon. Danladi Chiya, appealed specifically to striking teachers to return to the classrooms so that pupils can resume their studies without further disruption.

Chiya commended the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, for his proactive role in addressing the issues and assured workers of the unwavering commitment of Area Council Chairmen to their welfare and improved working conditions.

The ongoing strike has disrupted essential services across the six Area Councils in the FCT, heightening concerns among residents and prompting the latest intervention by ALGON.
