Engaging Traditional Rulers in Constitutional Amendment: Kalu Seeks Input of Emirs of Kano and Bichi


Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, has emphasized the importance of traditional rulers’ contributions to the ongoing constitutional amendment process. During his recent visits to the Emirs of Kano and Bichi, Kalu solicited their input, recognizing the invaluable role of traditional institutions in shaping the country’s legal framework.

Kalu, who chairs the House Committee on Constitution Review, stressed that traditional rulers’ wisdom and experience are crucial in strengthening the Constitution and meeting the aspirations of the people. He expressed his commitment to engaging with them throughout the amendment process.

During his visit to the Emir of Kano, Dr. Aminu Ado Bayero, Kalu congratulated him on the recent marriage ceremony of his children and appreciated his efforts in promoting peace and unity in the country. He also commended the Emir for his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda.

The Emir of Kano expressed gratitude for Kalu’s visit, describing him as a worthy son of Nigeria. He assured Kalu that traditional rulers will make their contributions to the constitution review process, leveraging their experience and knowledge to strengthen the legal framework.

Similarly, at the palace of the Emir of Bichi, Alhaji Nasir Ado Bayero, Kalu congratulated him on the marriage of his children and appreciated his role in the launch of the Peace in South East Project (PISE-P). The Emir thanked Kalu for his visit and recognized the parliament’s efforts in keeping Nigeria together.

Through these visits, Kalu demonstrated his commitment to engaging with traditional rulers and soliciting their input in the constitutional amendment process, ensuring that their invaluable contributions shape the country’s legal framework and strengthen national unity.
