The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has responded to a viral video alleging the wrongful imprisonment of a Naval rating, Seaman Abbas Haruna, who is said to have been incarcerated for six years.
In a press release issued today, the DHQ assured Nigerians that the Armed Forces of Nigeria remains dedicated to justice, fairness, and adherence to the rule of law.
According to the statement, military court-martial processes are thorough and designed to ensure fairness and justice in line with established military procedures and legal standards.
The DHQ emphasized that all personnel are given equal opportunities to defend themselves within this framework.
In light of the recent allegations, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, has ordered an immediate investigation into the case. The DHQ has promised that the findings of the investigation will be made public as soon as it is completed.
The DHQ also urged the public to avoid spreading unverified information, encouraging patience as the investigation proceeds.
Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, Director of Defence Information, signed the statement, assuring Nigerians of a swift and transparent inquiry.
