In an effort to curb the escalating insecurity in the country, the Armed Forces of Nigeria has deployed special forces to hotspots nationwide, according to Major General Edward Buba, the Director of Defence Media Operations. Addressing the media on troop activities across the six geopolitical zones, he emphasized the Military High Command’s dedicated work to address the immediate and long-term situation, ensuring the safety of lives and property. General Buba asserted the commitment to eradicate terrorism, labeling it a self-inflicted issue among citizens.
Highlighting ongoing operations, he mentioned the deployment of special forces and battlefield enablers for targeted operations and enhanced intelligence against terrorists. Offensive operations are underway in various locations, including Cashew Forest, Kwaku, Gwombe, and Tukuba in the FCT, with neighboring states like Niger witnessing military actions in areas such as Gauraka and Apo Forest.
Addressing the unrest in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, General Buba confirmed arrests and troop deployment to restore normalcy, emphasizing the need to eliminate the self-inflicted crisis. During the week, 94 individuals were neutralized, 171 arrested, and 43 oil theft perpetrators detained, with 29 kidnapped hostages rescued. Troops also prevented an oil theft amounting to N485,983,150.00, recovering 168 weapons and 2,757 ammunition.
General Buba urged Nigerians to provide timely and credible information to security agencies, emphasizing a collective effort in villages, communities, and environments to support the security forces. He called for trusted voices to promote good over evil, emphasizing the importance of stopping the bleeding and commencing the healing process for the sake of peace.
